Critical Commentary

AO: This article (from September 2020) notes that despite a narrative that heavily circulated early in the global spread of the COVID pandemic that "vulnerable" and "high-risk" places, in Africa for example, were going to be devastated by COVID, it has not in fact played out that way. Most of the continent is doing much better than places like the United States, for example. Attiah notes that mainstream news have released headlines like: “Coronavirus in Africa: Could poverty explain mystery of low death rate?” (BBC) or “Scientists can’t explain puzzling lack of coronavirus outbreaks in Africa" (The New York Post).
